Winnipeg, MB – Winnipeg Public Library is pleased to announce the launch of the Sun Life Musical Instrument Lending Library program at the Millennium Library (251 Donald St.). Sun Life is sponsoring the lending library by donating more than 150 instruments, cases, and accessories.
“We are excited to provide more Canadians with access to music through this innovative program, one that aligns with our mission of building healthy and sustainable communities for life,” said Paul Joliat, Assistant Vice-President, Global Partnerships, Sun Life. “Music is very powerful and affects the way we think, feel and act, which is why the joy of making music is something every Canadian deserves to experience.”
The Sun Life Musical Instrument Lending Library program is the first of its kind for the Winnipeg Public Library. This innovative, free program will allow residents to access a range of musical instruments that can be borrowed with a library card. Some of the instruments available are: guitars, mandolins, violins, portable keyboards, and various types of drums. Instruments must be checked out and returned at the Millennium Library only.
“Music brings joy to people’s lives and the Sun Life Musical Instrument Lending Library offers the gift of instruments to Winnipeg residents, free of charge,” said Sherri Rollins, Chair of the Standing Policy Committee on Protection, Community Services and Parks. “This meaningful program will offer musical opportunities to people who may not be able to afford an instrument, and will foster talent in aspiring musicians.”
Sun Life Musical Instrument Lending Library programs have been launched in 11 libraries across Canada.
Beginning October 4, 2019, a musical instrument donation drive will commence to add to the collection so that more residents can have access to instruments. All new or gently used guitars, banjos, ukuleles, violins, drums and portable keyboards can be dropped off at Millennium Library or at Long & McQuade (1845 Pembina Hwy.), a Sun Life program partner.
