Shivanya Ra, in front of the ideaMILL

Shivanya Ra

Shivanya Ra (she/they) is an Autistic-disabled and neurodivergent visual artist, curator and advocate for disability representation and accessibility. Her media spans drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, collage, installations and interactive elements. They hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a minor in Museum and Curatorial Studies and a certificate in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Sociology. She has recently completed a Master of Arts in Cultural Studies, specializing in Curatorial Practices.

Ra’s practice centers on creating inclusive spaces that challenge societal norms and foster authentic connections.  As an Autistic-disabled artist living with ADHD, Aphantasia, and mental illness, they actively challenge misconceptions that people like her cannot create, communicate, or shape the cultural landscape. Her work blends playful visual expression with deep reflection on intersecting identities, disability, divergence, and the environmental and societal forces—and the communities—that shape us. They invite others to see themselves within the work and to imagine how they, too, might recreate and belong within these evolving spaces, alongside disabled joy and reimaging.

Shivanya is offering drop-in studio times in the ideaMILL and running workshops at library branches throughout the city.
